Properties and clinical significance of an alkaline phosphatase-lipoprotein-X complex.
نویسنده
چکیده
The existence of an alkaline phosphatase-lipoprotein-X complex was demonstrated as an abnormally moving band in the agar-agarose gel alkaline phosphatase pattern of sera from 58 patients in a group of 72 patients whose sera contained lipoprotein-X. The position of the abnormally moving band in the agar-agarose gel alkaline phosphatase pattern and the percentage of alkaline phosphatase activity in the complex in relation to the total serum alkaline phosphatase activity depend on the serum lipoprotein-X concentration. The presence of the complex is a reliable indicator for cholestasis and of limited value in the differentiation between intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholestasis.

High-molecular-mass alkaline phosphatase in serum and bile: nature and relationship with lipoprotein-X.
Using immunoelectrophoresis and other techniques, we have demonstrated an association between lipoprotein-X and (a) alkaline phosphatase and (b) other enzymes originating from the hepatocyte membrane, namely gamma-glutamyltransferase and leucine aminopeptidase. The high-molecular-mass forms of these enzymes, in both serum and bile, were precipitated by lipoprotein-X antiserum but not by antiser...

Lipoprotein X (LP-X) is an abnormal lipoprotein that appears in the sera of patients with obstructive jaundice and is thus a marker for cholestasis. The presence of LP-X in serum does not allow discrimination between intra- and extra-hepatic cholestasis. In addition LP-X is present in the plasma of patients with familial plasma lecithin: cholesterol acyl transferase (LCAT) deficiency. It is a s...

Background and Aims: Nowadays, osteoporosis is increasing, especially in postmenopausal women, due to hormonal changes, including some enzyme factors, such as alkaline phosphatase and blood calcium levels. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of water exercise with Elaeagnus angustifolia supplementation on alkaline phosphatase and calcium serum levels in overw...
متن کاملThe nature of the serum alkaline phosphatases in liver diseases.
The two main alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in serum from patients with extrahepatic biliary obstruction have been purified. Properties of these isoenzymes, such as electrophoretic mobility, separation on gel filtration, ultracentrifugation characteristics, Michaelis constants, and sensitivity to neuraminidase have been studied and compared with the isoenzymes of liver and bile. The results sh...
متن کاملAn alarming biochemical side effect of Teucrium polium on the plasma membrane alkaline phosphatase of k562 cell line
The unexpected enhancement of alkalinee phosphatase (ALP) activity in the serum of a group of STZ-diabetic rats recieving the Teucrium polium extract (with hypoglycaemic property) may be attributed to its probable side effects. In order to get a more precise knowledge about this subject, we evaluated the effect of T. polium extract on the plasma membrane ALP activity of K562 cell line. Our data...
